Whether we are working on personal balance or increasing our speed, we are able to measure our growth by the amount of time it take us to get through a series of movements or how many times we put our foot down when performing our balance kicks. In this exercise, let’s challenge our notions and our abilities again by decreasing the amount of space we allot for our personal workout.

Wisdom
When you loose sight of your goal or become confused in your initial direction, the simplest things can distract you. The only way to be aware of your surroundings, yet stay focused on your goal is to ready yourself with a practiced response. That’s why we have forms. To give us a vehicle of personal discovery.

Thank you Master Biernacki - nice work picking a form that I find tends to expand also. Would you also apply this to Sanchin Ni, or do you feel that this is counter to the intent of the form?
Thank you Master Biernacki. Since I work out in my tiny room which gives me a floor area to work on similar to your last square, I am wondering how to go through my Sanchin Ryu in this space. Especially forms like Sanchin-Ni and Nihachi when you normally walk along a line in one direction, I’m not sure what to do to make the form fit the space I have. I’ve played with changing angles, changing the size of my steps, or both. But at what point do I switch from making the form my own to making up my own form? When do I lose the strategy behind those moves (which I’m still trying to figure out to begin with)?
Both great questions. They’ll be better explained through a video explanation. I’ll get to work on that pretty quick!
Great visual with the sand.
Excellent excercise.
