I am confused about what type of action ju is (basic 10) . Is it a grab or parry followed by a shuto?
Thanks your sharing your question with us. Both of your ideas are good ways to use what we call the shuto (”knife hand”). When you practice the shuto you want to start by aiming for your opponents shoulder. As you develop a sense of power, you can experiment with it. It actually does so much more than most people believe. However, we’ve got to train with a basic way in order for it to be effective under more circumstances.
