Have you ever experimented with different counter-techniques to get out it? This video will explore one idea. Featuring Jake Biernacki, District Master.

"Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding. Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain."

Great application!
Thanks!
Chris
Masters, we worked this in class tonight for a bit. Afterward, I was adjusting the setup on my own, so didn’t get to work this… If the attacker has your hand in a wrist lock as well, then pointing the hand down may not be an option. Would you just lead with the wrist down the spine? or another approach?
Excellent strategy! What if a person did not have the strength or agility to “point the hand downward” and run it down the spine? If the arm is really locked or even if this person has you in a walking forward motion, what other options are there?
Chief Instructor Dearman could this be a time when we might go up off our heals?
Thank You,
Mike Newberry
Today in class we got to work on this some. We (Sensei Ryan, Mark, Terry, and I) found that if they grab your wrist with their thumb down (which I see is opposite of how Master Beirnacki grabbed you) we got it to work really well. However, if grabbed the way this video shows, none of us could get it to work. And, we are all confused why!! I told them I would come home and post so I am.
I do notice that we were grabbing differently though - one pinning the hand and the other was around the neck (like a choke hold) so we were super close - right on each other. I noticed in myself that I would arch back some due to the pulling on my neck combined with the pressure on my shoulder. Anything I tried made the pressure worse and more than once I had to say let go because I think my shoulder was about to pop out of socket lol.
I do see one main thing other than the grab that is different - I see in this video there is a decent amount of space between you and Master Beirnacki, is that distance needed for this to work? And if we are tightly pined right to them (like how we were doing it), what are some ideas for getting this to work? Seriously, the four of us played with this for about 45 minutes and couldn’t figure out anything (other than the if their thumb is down on the one pinning your hand it works great, and if not, then it didn’t).
I would really appreciate any input, and I’m sure the others would too! It seems to work so easy for you so I’m guessing we are missing something extremely simple haha.
Thanks bunches!
Amy
Hey! So today we worked on it in class again - and Susan helped us figure it out
We got it working every which-way we could think of lol (close like we were, farther like this video, with the person’s other arm choking, etc etc). We even came up with a neat way of turning around in a way to lock up the other person’s arm providing lots of neat h2h opportunities!
Basically, we were focusing too much on our hand following the spine down and the stance hight to take advantage of other opportunities and even using the rest of our body. So, we need a “duh” smiley (bear with me and see if this works, sorry if this comes out a bunch of code):
Whoospie forgot to put in the image (one more try, because this is perfect smiley for how I felt for a bit!)

Thank you Chief Instructor Dearman and Master Biernacki for the instruction in hand to hand techniques. I love to see these real life practical applications!
Is more instruction in hand to hand from you two forthcoming?
