The next exercise in our Environment Change series deals with an attack from the “mounted” position. Let’s give Sensei Kevin Hirakis a warm welcome, as he is the newest Master of the Sanchin-Ryu Dojo! Note: this video was filmed on a very cold day just before Thanksgiving in Mason, Michigan.

Kewl beans! Thanks Sensei Hirakis. Oh, and neat avatar too btw. The to be continued…what if you’re on your stomach? hmm…I think I have something about this in my notes somewhere, I’ll have to look it up. (For being young I forget a lot. I can’t wait until I can use the “I’m old” excuse.)

Sensei Hirakis.. very nice! I like the input about keeping the elbows at home, I remember doing this exercise a while ago and my opponent bouncing around like a rodeo cowboy. That arm position looks like you can take much better control of their movement.

Good basic information. Thank you, Sensei Hirakis. I’ve done this exercise before, but this focus on head and elbow placement should make it even more effective. Kudos.

Very nice so far, looking forward to seeing what techniques are recommended for escape or reversal.
