Rarely do students have the opportunity to participate in a class led by Chief Instructor Ben Dearman and Chief Instructor Joe Dearman. On this night, the students of the Jackson-Northwest, Michigan Dojo had just that. In this first part of two videos, Master Ben Dearman sheds light on the eighth C.B.A. Ni-Hachi, when used to accept the impact of a punch.

One question. Where is that first Shuto striking to be most effective?
JJ: You want to hit at the base of the skull/top of the neck for the best reaction. Anything below that is good too, even in the back, just not above. The skull isn’t a forgiving target! Remember to lead with the elbow, not the hand, to ensure a straight-line strike. Good question, thanks for asking!
