Chief Instructor Dearman,
Combining this exercise with the iron horse video… I’ve been working on my opening and lowering my iron horse and applying it in sanchin-ni and kikato-hiza. With the reduced hip mobility from the low stance, I am having trouble with the cross body strikes (e.g. the san in sanchin-ni).
Can this be done from the iron horse? or am I missing a stance transition to something like a very open L.
Mark,
I had nearly the same thought last night; are we placing the opponent too far to the side, perhaps? If I’m intentional about placing my Iron Horse close into the other person, lessening the side angle, it’s easier to connect with the san in Sanchin-Ni without the strain on the hips and/or overreaching to make it connect.
Great observations, the topics covered are related. The next video (Oct. 16) will inspire!
