A Sanchin-Ryu Dojo FIRST: a Kumite Simulation! This simulation focuses on an exercise in targeting with upper-body strikes. Strike at the green target that flashes on the screen. When a red target flashes, don’t strike, just ready yourself for the next strike. Start with a simple Ichi Punch, then, repeat this exercise using Upper-Thrusts, Reverse Strikes and Cross-Body Snap Punches. Success will depend greatly on your ability to relax and commit to each punch, don’t hesitate or second-guess, trust yourself!

    WOW!!!
Master Dearman, you have really brought in a new element to kumite in our personal workout. I’ve run throught this simulation a number of times and the possibilities are endless, and I haven’t even left my Sanchin stance yet!
    Truly a stroke of genius!
    :)

UNBELIEVABLE!!! I’ve always wanted a Sanchin-Ryu video game and now we have it! Seriously though, great job Chief Instructor Dearman, you’ve really outdone yourself this time. This is such a challenging and diverse exercise, all ranks will definitely be equally rewarded from it. Time for me to try it again:):):)

WOHOO that was so kewl! When it started to speed up I was thinking “omg this is crazy” but it was so fun! The moving ones…those are freaky - reminded me of the yellow wordmuncher monsters from a old DOS game I used to play lol. This one I am definitly going to get addicted to!

Absolutely amazing! That’s one of the greatest workouts I’ve had. Sweet and to the point. The various rythms and movements are great. And just when you think you have the timing from doing it a few times, it tricks you. Thank you Chief Instructor Master Dearman.

    Chief Instructor Master Dearman,
The work out excersise is totally cool! (and humiliating) dont want to admit how many times the red target was struck, it’s funny actually, prior to becoming involved with Sanchin Ryu I would have gotten frustrated each time I messed up, since Sanchin Ryu it only points me to where I realize more work and practice is needed.
    Truly a life change!
As awsome and challenging as the phsyical excercise is we all need to absorb the message delivered prior as well, I think the true lesson is found there.
Thanks a ton Chief Instructor Master Dearman,
    Bob and Kirry

Bob and Kirry - i started laughing reading your post (nothing bad!) I just thought it’s too bad we can’t just “merge” somehow - I think I have hit one red target so far…my problem is I keep missing a ton of green ones! So that’s why I was laughing - I just had this thought that we should do some trading :)

    Chief Instructor Master Dearman,
Thank you for finally creating a video game in which I can beat my 8-year-old son! (who needs nintendo?!) Seriously, what a great interactive concept. I’ve shared this with many of my non-sanchinka friends who have enjoyed it almost as much as me. Keep the great innovations and information coming!

Thank you everyone for sharing your experience with this video! I’ve really enjoyed doing it myself. There is nothing better than getting lost in a workout, especially when it feels like a game! What’s so great is that this is just the beginning! We’ve got all kinds of great ideas just waiting to be posted, seen and experienced!

Chief Instructor Dearman, I went through the exercise for the first time on Sunday. At first, when I ‘messed up’ and hit a red target, I’d have a ‘DOH’ reaction, throwing myself off balance mentally and loosing the flow.. and often missing the next couple targets until I got my focus back on task.

Is repetition is the most effective way of working to minimize this down time? I’m trying to think of more daily opportunities to apply this concept.. any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Mark

Is it just me or has the order changed?? :) Thanks Master Joe!! I was starting to feel like I was “cheeting” because after a few times my brain seemed to have it the order mostly memorized. Will you keep switching it up? It’s definitly more fun not knowing what is next :)

No, the order has not changed! However, I’m currently working with Chief Grand Master Dearman on the next Kumite Simulation. Let’s just say, I think you’ll find it challenging!

Weird it seems like it has! Well my idea of not doing it for 5-6 days must have worked to help me forget then. :\ As to the new one you are working on…I find this one challenging (my brother, Brian, still laughs at me when I do it *rollseyes*)!

Some one should whip up a executable download-able ‘game’ file that turns the whole screen black and does the same thing with red and green dots. Would be cool if someone who is an amateur programmer (i used to be able to do it) could make it so you can adjust the speed of the dot changes and levels of difficulty, stuff like that.
