Snow on trees

Most of us in the Midwest awoke to find a landscape covered with a white blanket of snow. Tonight a Sensei class was scheduled to meet in Kalamazoo, Michigan. With the roads the way they are, that’s not going to work. So, that leaves many of us are stuck in-doors with nothing to do.

Sanchin-Ryu to the rescue! We’re holding a special class tonight online and you’re invited! We’ll be leading a fun holiday workout at the Sanchin-Ryu Dojo from 5-7:00PM ET.

Chief Instructor Joseph DearmanSanchin-Ryu Member Wins Contest, Featured in German Newspaper

Posted by Chief Instructor Joseph Dearman

I received news this morning that Sanchinka Dr. Birgit Otte was featured in the German newspaper, Derwesten for her photography. Congrats Birgit!

Here’s the link

Below is the “gist” of the article translated in english:

“In love with photography - It must be love, when somebody carries 15kg (30lbs) of equipment on every trip into nature. Dr. Birgit Otte is obviously in love with photography. The Bochumer carries her photo equipment and everything she needs for a night outdoors with her whenever she is on the hunt. On the hunt for beautiful motifs. …”

From Birgit: The article goes on explaining that I didn’t expect to win, that I also made 3rd place with another photo, that I take pictures since age 10, and that it has become a passion for me. It describes that I had to choose from over 1000 pictures I had taken over the years, that I compared them with the photos others had already submitted, and then removed all photos similar in nature like landscapes, animals, sunsets. They quote me saying that there were many great photos in the contest and that I plan on writing a book with photos about my travels in the US. They say that I had lived, studied, and worked in the US for twelve years and returned to Germany only recently. And that I also want to write a book about the Ruhr area where I live now to surprise my American friends with it.

Chief Instructor Joseph DearmanHappy Birthday Chief Grand Master

Posted by Chief Instructor Joseph Dearman

Chief Grand Master celebrates his 57th birthday today. I thought the following submission from Sanchin-Ryu Dojo member Brenda was a fitting tribute to the man that started it all:

O’d to Chief Grand Master, I bet you didn’t know how many lives you will have changed so many years ago. Through your studies and you strength we’ve all come so very far, with the cloth of you knowledge we polish our own bright star. Thank You Chief Grand Master it’s hard to put in words, the gift you’ve given to my life and his and theirs and hers…

God bless, Brenda Hancock

Chief Instructor Joseph DearmanDojoChat: Double Tiger-Claws

Posted by Chief Instructor Joseph Dearman

The last few weeks, I’ve been asked some good questions about the Tiger-Claw technique. This workout is dedicated to one of them. “Can double Tiger-Claws replace the double Shutos in the form of Kikato-Hiza?”. The answer is…. maybe. Have a look at this video to learn more.
