(play around with using the iron horse stances from various forms and stepping into and onto their legs creates new opportunities, play around with stepping on their feet every time you star step) 10) Kibon-Ki: This form is unique, in the fact, that it bridges our study of Sanchin-Ryu from forms to kata.  The design of this form illustrates how the combination of different concepts leads us to an overall strategy in kumite.  Many students, when trying to learn this form, will say “This is the Seui part” or “This is the “Wansu” part.  We need to look past that initial thought and really explore, why we are using the flurry or the dump in those particular situations and see how those concepts help us with our overall strategy.  This form is also unique, in that, it teaches us to work with a partner. Technique: Find a stationary object that provides some protection, work your form around this object and see how it provides a shield from your opponents. See how the various concepts take on a different application in a different environmental setting. In this article, we have attempted to address some of the things we may have wondered about.  Explore your basics and find OTHER uses and ways to strategically employ them to enhance and maximize your knowledge and use of them as tools.  Also, there may be other drawbacks that were not addressed, our goal was just to hit some of the bigger ones.  When you see a technique we don’t use, there is a good reason for it.  Start to look at it strategically and find it’s weakness.  Then look at your Sanchin-Ryu and find a tool or technique that can exploit that weakness to keep control of a situation.  In this way, you are truly making Sanchin-Ryu your own personal study and making it yours.
